Boat, median ignite near Ashton
A flat tire led to a boat and a median being engulfed in flames, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said.
At about 3:30 pm Thursday, a fire destroyed a boat and trailer being towed by a vehicle on US Highway 20.
Authorities said a tire on the boat trailer went flat and caught fire, igniting grass in the median south of Ashton.
The driver stopped, but the fire found a dangling rope which burned itself into the boat. Since the boat trailer was disconnected from the vehicle and couldn’t be pulled out of the way, both the boat and the trailer were destroyed by fire.
There was no estimate of damage, and details on how long it took emergency crews to put out the flames was unavailable.
The driver has not been named. Investigation is continuing.
