Driver survives runaway truck crash in Teton Pass

Teton Pass traffic was slowed for several hours Monday night after a runaway truck loaded with talcum powder lost its brakes and slid off the east side of Wyoming Highway 22.

Wyoming Highway Patrol Lieutenant Tom Kelley said the truck took out about 240 feet of guard rail before it went over the edge at around 6 p.m. Monday. The driver, Sharop Khudayberganov, 50, of Davenport, Iowa, was not seriously hurt.

Kelley said the truck was about 15,000 pounds over legal weight limit for the pass. Numerous emergency vehicles slowed traffic to one lane of travel between the upper and lower truck ramps for almost three hours Monday night.

Kelley said the talcum powder did not escape the truck.
