Lines protecting Jackson from wildfire holding up
The potential evacuation area for the Horsethief Canyon Fire has been reduced in size.
The current boundary is now south of East Broadway, to east of Rancher Street, to south of Cache Creek Drive, to west of Redmond Street, to south of East Kelly Avenue, to east of Vine Street. A map of the evacuations is attached to this story (in full browser view).
No evacuation orders have been issued but fire managers are urging residents to remain on guard.
Crews are reminding the public that Game Creek, Cache Creek, and Snow King mountain trails are still closed to use to allow for access of firefighting equipment.
Fire lines protecting the town of Jackson and the Jackson Hole Valley’s main communications towers from the 2,700-acre wildfire are holding up.
Officials say the Horsethief Canyon Fire burning south of the resort town didn’t make any significant runs Tuesday and was quiet overnight.
About 1,000 residents have been warned to be prepared to leave in case the fire gets too close.
The fire, which is about 10 percent contained, is burning next to Snow King Mountain less than two miles from the town.
The fire has been ruled human caused. Teton County issued a statement saying attorney Steve Weichman will be working with the U.S. Attorney’s Office regarding potential prosecution in the case.
