Police: 2 accused of shoplifting nearly run over manager

Police said two people were caught shoplifting at Family Dollar, and nearly hurt the manager.

When officers arrived at Family Dollar on Holmes Avenue on Tuesday afternoon in response to a shoplifting incident, the manager told them Amber Laree Morton, 21, and Kyli Kimberly K. Brown, 22, had loaded their purses and handbags with about $475 of merchandise. The manager claimed to have stopped the two as they attempted to leave, and they dumped all the merchandise.

The manager called police. Brown and Morton pushed the manager out of the way as they left the store. The manager followed them out, telling them to stop.

Police said Morton and Brown got into a gold Cadillac and drove off, almost hitting the manager.

Police later located Morton at an apartment in the 2700 block of St. Clair and Brown at an apartment in the 500 block of Hansen. They were arrested on burglary and possession of stolen vehicle charges. Brown was also arrested on a charge of aggravated assault and two Bonneville County warrants.

The Cadillac they were driving was stolen, police said.
