Idaho’s 2011 spud production up 7 percent

As producers prepare to bring in the 2012 potato crop, the Idaho Agricultural Statistics Service reports Idaho’s 2011 potato crop totaled 129 million hundredweight, an increase of 1.3 percent from earlier estimates. In Idaho, 319,000 acres were harvested in Idaho.

Nationally, 2011 potato production has been finalized at 391 million hundredweight. That was 7 percent above the 2010 crop but 1 percent below 2009 levels.
