Jackson evacuation advisories lifted

All fire evacuation advisories for east Jackson have been lifted. Jackson Hole Fire Chief Willy Watsabaugh said he is confident firefighting efforts will adequately protect the area.

The Elk Refuge Road will be closed from 8 am to 8 pm to pedestrians and bicycles from the intersection of East Broadway and Elk Refuge Road to the Miller House. Pedestrians are also being advised not to stop on the sidewalk bordering East Broadway or along a fence bordering the Elk Refuge. All National Forest lands in the Snow King, Cache and Game Creek areas are closed to accommodate air and ground fire fighting efforts. All trails within the Greater Snow King area, including Snow King Mountain, Putt-Putt and Crystal Butte are also closed.

The human caused fire, which started around 3 pm Saturday, September 8th, has grown to 3,324 acres and is 36 percent contained. 587 firefighters are involved.

Windy conditions were forecast Friday and a dry air mass will bring low relative humidity. As a result, fire managers say potential for growth of the fire is high.

Teton County Emergency Management is asking all county residents to be prepared, not only for wildfires, but for all types of disasters.
