Rexburg Walmart receives bomb threat
The Walmart in Rexburg received a bomb threat Saturday afternoon from an unknown source.
Lt. Corey Foster confirms a young, male caller dialed in to the store and told staff two backpacks containing explosives were planted in the aisles of the store.
Rexburg police responded to the situation, along with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Madison Fire Department and Idaho Falls K-9 unit. Foster said after combing through the store with a bomb dog, no explosives were found.
The store was evacuated from about 5 p.m. to 6:20 p.m., but is now in full service again.
Foster said officers tried to ping the number back to it’s source and were routed to a voicemail recording saying, “If you feel this is a hoax, contact your local law enforcement.” From this, police determined this is a hoax that has been performed before.
Foster said anyone who plays a prank like this will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The incident is will undergo further investigation.
