Chall Creek fire forces evacuations near Daniel

The Bridger Teton National Forest has issued evacuation orders for several communities near the Chall Creek Fire, about 25 miles northwest of Daniel Junction, Wyo.Fifty firefighters, including six Boise smoke jumpers, Helitack crews from the Bridger Teton National Forest and Salt Lake City, seven fire engines, three helicopters, and one dozer were dispatched after the fire started at about 2 p.m. Sunday. The cause of the 380-acre fire is undetermined.

No structures have been lost, but evacuations are in effect for North Beaver Road, Timberline Lodge and Siems Roads. The town of Merna and the Jim Bridger Estates are under a pre-evacuation advisory. The American Red Cross has set up evacuation services at the Pinedale Middle School.

Firefighters hope to keep the fire confined between Thunder Road and North Beaver Road, but expect to see torching, spotting, and erratic, gusty winds Monday.
