Fre restrictions to be lifted in Jefferson County

A two-month ban on open fire in Jefferson County will be lifted Oct. 1.

Jefferson Central Fire District Chief Jim Deuel said Monday in a news release that since the ban was enacted July 16, there has been a significant decrease in the number of fire calls.

Although the ban is being lifted, Deuel is reminding residents there is still an elevated fire threat caused by dry weather conditions.

The fire district is not issuing burn permits at this time. Anyone who wishes to conduct burning of approved materials should contact the District office at 745-6003 with information about the date, time, and location of the burn.

Deuel also suggested basic guidelines, including:

Stay with your fire at all times and burn only during daylight hours. Keep a water supply nearby. Provide a fire break around your burn area. Keep weather conditions in mind. Do not burn when wind is above 10 mph. Remember the person doing the controlled burn has liability for any and all damage caused by the fire and its byproducts. Think about where your smoke is going and how it will affect your neighbors. Call if the burn gets out of control and you need help.

People living within the city limits of Rigby, Ririe, Lewisville or Menan must adhere to those cities’ fire requirements.
