Idaho Falls man arrested after 5-hour standoff
An Idaho Falls man is in jail after a five-hour SWAT standoff Tuesday night.
James R. Farber, 34, was booked into the Bonneville County Jail on a parole violation warrant.
Idaho Falls officers responded to assist probation and parole in the 300 block of W. 16th Street for a warrant service around 4:30 p.m. Farber was reported to be suicidal and observed to be in possession of a handgun.
Officers negotiated with Farber for two hours without result. The SWAT team was called out about 6:30 p.m. Residents surrounding the apartment were voluntarily evacuated.
Police said Farber barricaded himself inside a bathroom. Officers deployed gas into the apartment around 11:30 p.m. Farber exited the apartment and was taken into custody.
He was treated at the hospital before being transported to jail. The gun in his possession was identified as a pellet gun, police said.
