Idaho Power crews head home

Two Idaho Power crews that went to Long Island, N.Y., to help restore power to those hit hard by Superstorm Sandy are on their way home.

The crews, along with those from other states, were released by Long Island Power Authority late Monday night and said they expected to have power restored to all locations where it is safe to do so. However, there are some areas hit so hard, they can’t be reconnected because of dangers the flood waters.

“The kindness and gratitude of the residents there was just phenomenal,” saidIdahoPowerConstruction Manager Matt Smith in a news release. “Despite the longpoweroutages and destruction, they were never impatient or unkind. We got cheers in the streets and high-fives when we got people’spowerback on. It was very gratifying.”

The two six-person crews from Idaho are expected to be home Friday.
