ISP make big pot bust in traffic stop

A Wednesday morning traffic stop resulted in a big pot bust near American Falls.

Idaho State Police arrested 51-year-old Antonio Alvarez-Contreras, of Gaston, Ore., on charges of trafficking a controlled substance.

A trooper pulled over Alvarez-Contreras’ 2002 Toyota Highlander on Interstate 86 eastbound just before 9 a.m. Wednesday for a routine traffic stop.

The trooper found and seized 89.9 pounds of marijuana. State police estimate the street value at $180,000.

Alvarez-Contreras was incarcerated in the Power County Jail. Investigation is continuing.
