Child drowns in canal

A 2-year-old has drowned in canal in Madison County.

Capt. Bruce Bowler with the Madison County Sheriff’s office said it happened in Salem around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Bowler said the little boy was missing for anywhere between 10 to 30 minutes before neighbors found him in the canal.

Rescue crews were called out. They tried to perform CPR, but the child was pronounced dead.

Bowler said the boy’s parents are from Fremont County. They were in Salem visiting relatives.
