Rexburg property owner follows burglary suspect

A Blackfoot man was arrested late Thursday night on felony burglary charges after police said he stole thousands of dollars of tools from a storage facility in Rexburg.

Police Capt. Randy Lewis said the owner of the facility at 276 Pioneer Road saw a man later identified as Allen Albert Hernandez, 28, near a storage unit around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

As Hernandez left, the facility owner drove by the unit and noticed a padlock had been cut.

The owner followed Hernandez as far as Rigby and reported his vehicle license plate, Lewis said.

Hernandez was found and detained by Blackfoot police. Rexburg detectives questioned Hernandez before arresting him.

More than $1,000 worth of construction tools, including framing guns, finishing nailers and other equipment, were recovered.

Hernandez was being held at the Madison County Jail in Rexburg on Friday.
