Madison sheriff employee to be charged in theft
About $3,500 is missing from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
The office found on July 12 that the money was missing over the previous 30-day period.
In a news release Tuesday, the office said an independent investigation was conducted by the Tri-County Sheriff’s Association, as is policy when a sheriff’s office employee is possibly involved in a crime. Two civilian employees were placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
One of the employees was cleared from criminal involvement in the thefts. A report has been turned over to the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office for review and for formal charges to be filed against the other employee.
More information will be released when the charges are filed.
