Ambulance crashes at intersection

An ambulance was involved in a two-vehicle crash that blocked the intersection of Ammon Road and U.S. Highway 26 on Friday afternoon.

Around 2 p.m., Brian Wood, 38, of Idaho Falls was traveling eastbound on U.S. 26 in an Idaho Falls Fire Department ambulance when he entered the intersection with emergency lights and sirens activated, Idaho State Police said.

Ryan Wetzel, 33 of Idaho Falls, was traveling southbound on Ammon Road in a 2004 Toyota pickup and also entered the intersection. The vehicles collided.

Wetzel was transported by ground ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Wood and his two passengers were all wearing their seat belts, ISP said.

The crash is still under investigation.
