Man arrested for hitting a police officer

An Idaho Falls man was arrested for punching a police officer Monday night.

Idaho Falls Police said Christopher L. Schmid, 31, punched the officer in the head when he tried to run away.

Police said they were called to the Common Cents store on Broadway around 6:50 p.m. after receiving information that Schmid was there. He was wanted for resisting arrest and outstanding warrants, police said.

Schmid ran away from police when they arrived. Officers had to use a taser in order to capture him, they said.

Schmid was taken to the hospital to be checked out and then booked into the Bonneville County Jail, they said.

He is being charged with felony battery on an officer.
