East Idaho Credit Union cancels cards after Target security breach
The breach at Target is having a huge effect on checking accounts at least at one regional credit union.
The debit cards of hundreds of East Idaho Credit Union members who used them at Target between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15 stopped working Thursday night.

The credit union’s CEO told us there was already a significant amount of bogus charges on customers accounts. So the credit union said it had no choice but to shut down hundreds of debit cards in an effort to prevent any more fraudulent charges.
It is unknown at this point exactly how many customers are affected, but Fuhriman says it’s less than 10 percent of their customer base.
Customers will be issued new cards which will be arriving in the mail soon.
The Target breach affected possibly 40 million shoppers nationwide from Nov. 27 to Dec. 15. The thieves reportedly gained access to data on the magnetic strips of shoppers’ cards, according to CNN.
