School in danger of losing its charter

A local charter school is in danger of losing its charter.

Monday, the Idaho Public Charter School Commission voted unanimously to send a letter of intent to revoke Odyssey Charter School’s charter.

Odyssey now has until June 30 to get accredited according to its performance certificate, or contract, with the state.

That process usually takes several months, so it was determined that Odyssey would not be able to make its deadline.

“They have 30 days to respond back to the notice, as soon as the commission receives the response then a hearing will be scheduled. We would like to schedule it as soon as possible, they would like to know what is going on,” said Alan Reed, chairman of the Idaho Public Charter Schools Commission.

Accreditation is very important for high schoolers, so their credits count toward college requirements.
