Firefighters and sheriff’s deputies square off in rib-eating contest

Monday afternoon Bonneville County sheriff’s deputies took on Ammon firefighters at the Texas Roadhouse in Ammon.

The 4th annual competition was a five on five, relay-style race. Each deputy and firefighter had to finish a full rack of ribs, so the competition took nearly 45 minutes.

Texas Roadhouse puts on the event for its annual Rib Fest. The restaurant said it’s a way to bring the community together for some fun.

The Bonneville County sheriff’s deputies won in a landslide, so they’ll hold on to the “High on the Hog” trophy until next year.

Deputy Dave Schwartz said it was a struggle getting a full rack down, but a good time nonetheless.

“We appreciate Texas Roadhouse putting this on,” said Schwartz. “It’s a great time for us to get together and just build some camaraderie between the sheriff’s office and the Ammon Fire Department.”

Next Monday, the Idaho Falls Fire Department will face the Idaho Falls Police Department in another rib-eating contest.
