Harkness Hotel holds grand opening
The Harkness Hotel held its grand opening Saturday to celebrate the combination of old and new, creating unique suites and rooms throughout the whole building.
Owner Aaron Hunsaker said he wants the eight-room hotel to become a travel destination, bringing people to McCammon to experience history combined with modern touches like the sinks, lighting designs and waterfall shower heads.
“Most of this town has an attachment to this building,” said Hunsaker. “They’ve all been really appreciative and really encouraging the whole time we’ve been doing it.”
Hunsaker said he and his wife just had a vision and went for it.
“I was fairly confident that people would like it, but there’s always hoping,” he said, crossing his fingers. “It’s been really nice to hear.”
There’s also a Facebook photo contest that will win you a free night’s stay. The rules are pretty simple: take a photo of your favorite feature of the hotel, write a description and post it to Facebook. Make sure you tag @the Harkness Hotel as well as use the hashtag #HarknessPhotoContest. Pictures are due by midnight Sunday, June 29. Winners will win a shirt, a mug and a free night’s stay.
