Air surveillance locates Cassia County marijuana grow sites

A southern Idaho drug task force seized 4,620 marijuana plants Wednesday.

Cassia County Sheriff Jay Heward said the Mini-Cassia Drug Task Force conducted a search for marijuana by air. Eighteen grow sites were in three separate cornfields in southern Cassia County.

Heward estimates the street value of the confiscated pot at more than $13.8 million.

The task force includes Cassia, Minidoka, and Jerome County sheriff offices, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Investigation is continuing.
