Distinguished Student Kickoff

Each Thursday we recognize a high school senior who has been nominated by a teacher, counselor or principal. They’re students who excel in academics, volunteering, extracurricular activities and school spirit.

Judging by last school year’s winner, they have some great advice for other students.

“I think keeping yourself busy with other things besides school makes school more fun,” said Madison High School winner, Andrew Pulsipher.

“I would say never let a day go by wasted,” was the advice from Firth High School winner Mikaela Jensen.

“You go to school to learn but doing extracurricular activities helps you gain more knowledge,” was the recommendation from Tyler Drewes of Hillcrest High School.

“Go take those hard AP and honors classes – those will get you where you need to go,” said Karlie Smedley from Highland High School.

Weekly winners earn their schools a $100 scholarship, and the schools of yearly winners get a $5,000 scholarship. It’s all thanks to the United Dairymen of Idaho through the generous donations of Idaho farm families.

Local News 8 has emailed nomination forms to high schools in Eastern Idaho, and is asking principals, counselors and teachers to respond with nominations to the outstanding students from their school can get the recognition they deserve.
