Man arrested in 2004 murder
Pocatello police have arrested a man in connection with the 2004 murder of Nori Jones.
In a news conference Tuesday, police announced that Brad Scott Compher, 39, had been arrested on a charge of first-degree murder.
Police had identified Compher as a person of interest in 2010 based on a single fingerprint recovered at the crime scene. Now, thanks to “new technology and advancements in DNA,” detectives have named Compher as a suspect and were able to get a warrant for his arrest.
The investigation into Compher involved many law enforcement agencies across eastern Idaho.
“This has been a complicated case that has taken many man-hours to solve,” said Pocatello Police Chief Scott Marchand.
Compher is scheduled to appear in court Thursday. He has a court record dating back to 2003 for many traffic law violations, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest and driving under the influence. In 2008 he changed his name from Ralph Roy Compher.
On Sept. 28, 2004, friends found Jones’ body at her home on Pole Line Road after she didn’t show up for work at the Job Service. She had been stabbed several times and had many defensive wounds.
She was 25 and was engaged to be married at the time of her death. The Pocatello Police ask everyone to respect the privacy of Jones’ family and friends as they receive this new information.
