Man crashes pickup during police chase

A man led deputies on a chase in Ammon and Idaho Falls early Monday morning, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said.

Just after midnight, deputies responded to reports that a woman was being hit and threatened by a man holding a gun in a pickup near the Ammon Walmart. Deputies said when they approached the pickup, the man drove off.

The driver, Doug Heaton, 33, fled into several residential neighborhoods in Ammon and Idaho Falls between 17th, Ammon Road and Hitt Road, the sheriff’s office said. Heaton lost control at First and Tabor, and the pickup rolled north of the intersection.

In addition to Heaton and the woman, a 2-month-old was in the pickup. All were transported to and released from Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Heaton faces charges of trafficking of a controlled substance, eluding and possession of a stolen firearm, all felonies.
