Post offices gear-up for busiest day of the year
If you happened to hit the post office on Monday, you might have encountered some unusually long lines.
That’s because today is expected to be the busiest day of the year for post offices across the state.
“We are going to have over a million cards, letters, and packages in Idaho just today,” Pocatello USPS Postmaster Liz Snow said. “There’s always one Monday that’s the busiest and it happens to be the 15th this year.”
Snow said it’s always a week and a half before Christmas, where people spend the weekend getting those cards ready to go, and then the following Monday they send them out to arrive just in time for the holiday.
Despite the longer than usual lines at the post office, the good news is that post office workers don’t expect there to be any delays.
“We’re really good and we have all of the transportation lined-up to go out, so we should be good to get it moving,” Snow reassured.
According to USPS district manager Jimmy Wolf, they are delivering packages seven days a week through Christmas in eight Idaho cities to make sure that holiday mail is delivered on time.
The Nampa, Caldwell and Pocatello main post offices, along with the Twin Falls Pioneer Station will extend Saturday retail hours from 10 o’clock in the morning until 4 o’clock that afternoon on December 13 and 20th.
