President Obama signs new federal education law
Congress has approved a new federal education law to replace 2001’s “No Child Left Behind Act’.
Thursday morning President Obama signed the bipartisan ‘Every Student Succeeds Act’ into law.
Dave Kerns, the superintendent of Snake River School District, said the Every Student Succeeds Act,’ strips away many of the high pressures that have been connected to student test scores.
Instead of just looking at test scores, it looks at homework, projects and other class work, Kerns said.
“The legislation will go a little bit further in that realm and help us to really identify those who are lagging behind and help close those gaps.” Kerns said adding it will help those students “achieve and I think that’s the goal of the act,” said Kerns.
State Education Superintendent, Sherri Ybarra said this is an exciting time for Idaho education to move in a positive direction.
