South Valley Road set to open December 23rd
Just in time for the Holidays, the City of Pocatello is preparing to open the South Valley Road.
On December 23rd the City of Pocatello has invited representatives from Idaho’s Congressional Delegation, representatives from Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter’s office, Idaho Transportation Department, and other dignitaries to officially open South Valley Road to the public.
“We will finally see the effort and perseverance of so many people pay off,” said Mayor Brian Blad. “It’s taken about 25 years, four mayors, multiple City Council members, state and federal officials, and so many City employees to get this project completed but it will finally be done.”
The public is invited to a short program that will be held in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, after which, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held near the intersection of South Valley Road and South 5th Avenue. The ribbon cutting site will be about 700 feet west of the intersection. The road will be open to the public at approximately 2 p.m.
The roadway features two travel lanes and bicycle lanes in each direction plus a 10-foot wide multi-use path. The total cost of the project was roughly $22 million and was financed through funds from the federal government, the Pocatello Development Authority, Union Pacific Railroad, and the City of Pocatello.
The city also notes thatunforeseen circumstances with construction could cause the date to change.
