Experts say we have not failed Idaho on education
After a recent education ad by the group “Don’t Fail Idaho” surfaced on TV and radio, superintendents from Idaho school districts have said the campaign isn’t completely correct.
In an article on Idahoednews.org, superintendents have agreed with this statement published Tuesday:
“As superintendents of many schools in this area, we feel it is important to defend our districts against a blatant attempt to undermine support for the public school system that serves this area. The “Don’t Fail Idaho” campaign and its parent organization, the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation, have based their claims on SAT data which is a predictor of a student’s performance in the first semester of their first year in a four-year institution. This data is tremendously narrow and does not reflect what is happening in our schools and with our students.”
This statement was signed by over a dozen superintendents from many school districts in Idaho.
Another thing to look at besides SAT scores, was recent high school graduation rates in the state.
Jeff Hough, parent of a junior student at Century High School says he believes the campaign ad isn’t completely on the money either. He says his son has plans after high school, as well as the many other students he knows of through his son.
