Addressing student homelessness in school district

Student homelessness has increased since 2012 but that number is finally decreasing this year. That’s according to a head count of homeless students currently in school by the Pocatello-Chubbuck School District.

Tuesday afternoon, school board leaders addressed the homeless issue with the community Rotary Club at the Clarion Hotel.

At the meeting, they shared resources available to decrease the homeless capacity.

Student Safety and Support Coordinator, Kent Hobbs says the main cause of homeless students is low income and poverty.

Hobbs says there are homeless shelters available to all students and their families as an answer.

Also for students, the free or reduced lunch program is always available to anyone who may need it.
