Time Out for Women comes to area
Women in the area gathered at “Time Out for Women” a chance to step away from their daily routines and take some time for themselves.
“Our mom just passed away in May from cancer,” said Debbie Elkins. “So it’s something she and I can do together and feel that bond.”
“You know all of our busy schedules, we all have them,” said Alicia McDaniel. “It’s really important that we do things for ourselves as women. This has been so uplifting and encouraging.”
What stood out to those who attended was the story of Alissa Park, who’s daughter was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
“I remember when that happened I was very sick with my fifth pregnancy, feeling like I had all these trials coming at me,” said McDaniel. “I was laying on the couch just couldn’t do much for my other kids and I was watching this on the news. I couldn’t believe that there was that kind of evil in the world. This wasn’t a shooting of teenagers or college but this was an elementary school.”
“I’ve been through a lot, and to hear her speak about her troubles helped me,” said Hannah Elkins.
“Here at time out for women I was able to hear first hand how that affected her life,” said McDaniel. “The morning her daughter passed away and how she got through that with her family and her support.”
“Everywhere you look there is somebody there that would love and care for you no matter what,” said Elkins.
The next “Time Out for Women” event in the region will be in Logan, Utah on Sept. 9 and 10.
