Senator Bernie Sanders speaks in Idaho Falls

Presidential hopeful Senator Bernie Sanders took the stage at Skyline High School in Idaho Falls Friday afternoon.

Sanders was introduced by Sierra Sandison, Miss Idaho 2014. Sandison took a moment to express her support for Sanders and his plans for universal health care for all Americans. Sandison is a Type 1 diabetic and wears an insulin pump full time.

Sanders stated during his address that one of the key factors to the success his campaign has had so far is because of the votes of young people. He believes the reason for this because young voters are willing to embrace bold ideas to help fix politics in the United States.

“It is too late to think about establishment politics,” said Sanders. “We are doing something very radical in American politics, which is telling the truth. The reality is we can’t go forward as a nation unless we discuss the problems we face as a county, we can just sweep them under the rug”

In his address to the large crowd of supporters, Sanders reiterated his stance that the U.S. has a corrupt finance system.

“Democracy is not about candidates spending half of their lives begging for campaign funds from the richest people in this county,” stated Sanders.

Sanders also called out Governor candidates across the nation running dirty campaigns.

“If you don’t have the guts to run in a free and fair election, get out of politics, get another job,” said Sanders.

Sanders also took time to address income inequality in the nation.

“There is no rational economic reason for women to be paid less than men. That is called sexism, together we are going to fix that,” promised Sanders.

As with many of his previous rallies, Sanders took time to address the problems with higher education and student debt in the country.

“Ask yourself this question. Why am I being punished for getting an education? As part of our legislation we are going to give people the chance to refinance that debt at the lowest rate possible. If the American people can bail out Wall Street in its time of need, now it is time for Wall Street to bail out the middle class,” said Sanders.

Sanders also briefly discussed the challenges the Republican party is currently facing during this primary election season. He specifically spoke about Donald Trump.

“Let me say a word of two on the rather unusual situation in the Republican party. And let me say a word or two about my good friend Donald Trump. Just kidding I’m not one of his friends,” joked Sanders.

“In virtually every poll that has come out in the last several months, we defeat Donald Trump and we defeat him big time. In a recent poll we were defeating Trump by 18 points,” Sanders declared.

“I’m going to tell you why Trump will never be elected President of the United States. The truth is that Donald Trump is a pathological liar. You can not have a President of the United States that you can not trust when he speaks. The truth is the American people will not elect a man who insults Mexicans and all of Latin America. They will not elect a man who insults Muslims, who insults women, or who insults African Americans.”

Sanders ended his speech at the rally with an impassioned plea.

“We can change America, but the only way we can change it is when millions of Americans stand up and fight back, and that is what the political revolution is about,” said Sanders.

Senator Bernie Sanders also covered multiple other subjects in his speech. You can find the full speech attached to this article.
