LDS Church announces four new temples
The president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints kicked off the final day of a church conference in Salt Lake City with an announcement of four new temples.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Thomas S. Monson said Sunday that LDS temples will be erected in Zimbabwe, Ecuador, Brazil and Peru.
Monson, who gave a short speech the night before, spoke briefly about the importance of the choice in the Mormon church’s quest for “celestial glory.”
The 88-year-old, considered a prophet, has offered fewer sermons at the bi-annual General Conferences in the last year.
More than 100,000 Mormons are believed to be attending the five conference sessions at two-day conference.
Millions more are expected to be watching live broadcasts from their homes.
