Alameda Middle School hosts family ‘STEM Night’
Science and math teachers at Alameda Middle School worked together to create a fair-of-sorts in an effort to get their students and their families to be more interested in STEM-related fields. (STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.)
STEM Night featured a number of local businesses, organization and community partners to showcase different activities. Zoo Idaho, the Idaho National Laboratory and the Museum of Natural History were some of those at the event.
Some of the activities included digging for gold, making flubber, building a bridge without nails and even making ice cream.
One Alameda Middle School student, Alyssa Miramontes, liked how the interactive activities went beyond what was taught in her science classes.
“It’s good to get here and have experiments and hands-on activities to do,” she said.
A grant from the Idaho STEM Action Center was used to help fund the event.
