Change of command, change of responsibilities for Lt. Col.

The Idaho National Guard got a new change of command at the Pocatello Armory Saturday morning.

The Battalion 148th Field Artillery Regiment held the ceremony, as the National Guard watched Lt. Col. Matthew Godfrey leave his command to Lt. Col. George Hansen.

Hansen will be taking command following an assignment at the orchard combat training center in Boise. He says he takes much pride with the new position since Pocatello is his home.

“Well as I command the battalion, the greatest responsibility, and in a time of conflict, I’m responsible for these soldiers’ lives. And if I’m responsible to bring them to war, it’s my responsibility to bring them home,” said Hansen.

When Lt. Col. Godfrey leaves Pocatello, he will begin his new position as Mobilization Readiness Division Chief at the Joint Force Headquarters in Boise.
