Technology and safety in schools is improving since Columbine

Wednesday marks the 17th anniversary of the Columbine shooting massacre in Columbine, CO that happened on April 20, 1999. Two students of Columbine High School opened fire, killing 13 and wounding two dozen more, ultimatelyending their own life afterwards in the school’s library. Idaho State University and other schools in the Pocatello-Chubbuck school district have made big changes to safety precautions and technology over the last 17 years to ensure student safety today.

Lewis Atkins of Public Safety at ISU says a lot has changed within the years. With the technology we have today, cell phones, cameras are only just the beginning.

“How much time do you have today? I can talk about a lot, so much has changed,” said Atkins.

Atkins talked about the active shooter event drills him and his team perform often to keep up to par with readiness. But again, that’s only the beginning as to how much has changed and improved over the years.
