Portneuf River walk part of visioning project

Pocatello held its Portneuf River Walk Sunday as part of the city’s re-visioning project for the river.

The walk went from Centennial Park to Memorial Park, and then back to Centennial. There were maps and plans of possible projects to be done along the river. There were short-term and long-term plans listed, and people voted for which project they would most like to see done.

There was also a visiting national eco-artist, Basia Irland, who spoke to community members and gave input on the project.

Hannah Sanger, the environmental division manager for Pocatello, said it’s vital for the community to get involved with the river visioning process.

“I think it’s so important that whatever the city enacts with the river, however we’re going to manage the river in the future, really needs to reflect community values,” Sanger said.

Sanger said she was pleased with how many people came out to participate in the walk, despite the cloudy and cold weather.

While on the walk, people could also view artwork placed along the bank by community members.
