Pocatello Nissan Kia unveils largest outdoor flag in Bannock County
In honor of Flag Day, the Pocatello Nissan Kia dealership unveiled the largest outdoor flag in Bannock County on Tuesday. The dealership held a special flag-raising ceremony Tuesday afternoon.
The flag is 20 feet by 38 feet. It was raised by Pocatello’s Honor Guard, which included several World War II veterans.
They gave the pledge of allegiance and sang the national anthem. Taps was also played.
Local veterans from Pocatello were also honored at the ceremony.
Speakers talked about the symbolism and importance of the American flag. The president of Pocatello Nissan Kia, Chris Russell, said he and other employees have military ties and relatives who served. So Russell said it’s a privilege and an honor for the dealership to fly the flag.
“Nothing is more American and patriotic than seeing the big giant American flag whipping in the wind and we’re just happy to have it on Flandro Drive,” Russell said.
After the flag-raising, it was lowered back to half-staff in honor of the Orlando shooting victims.
The dealership said the cost for the flag, flagpole and the entire event totaled about $25,000.
