Sixth Annual Michelle Kern Memorial Run Held
Dozens of people turned out Friday night for a memorial run honoring a family of four murdered in an Ammon home in 2011.
The sixth annual ‘Michelle Kern 5K Twilight Run’ was held as the sun set over Idaho Falls. The event is two-fold. The first purpose is to honor the memory of Kern, her sister Malinda , and Michelle’s two children. The second purpose is to raise funds for the memorial scholarship at Eastern Idaho Technical College.
“I don’t feel this was a perchance,” Michelle Skidmore said. Skidmore is this year’s recipient of the 2016 – 2017 scholarship. “This was meant to be.”
The scholarship started in 2011 in honor of Kern and three others who were murdered just days after Kern graduated from Eastern Idaho Technical College.
“This is not just a scholarship to me that someone tossed out there,” Skidmore said. This is something that is an honor of Michelle and Melinda and it was very touching and I’m just honored to have received the scholarship.”
All the money raised will be put towards the scholarship fund.
The man responsible for the murders, Gayline Leimore, killed himself after shooting the four victims and setting the house on fire.
