New wood design shop open in Pocatello

A new business is now open in Pocatello. It’s called “Ideas on Wood” and specializes in custom-made wood designs and pictures.

Marc Frazier is the owner and he said he can take any picture a customer wants and put it on wood. He said he can do pretty much anything. He can do family photos, logos, favorite sayings, flags and more. He also makes frames, as well as both flag display and shadow boxes.

He said making wood designs is something he just kind of fell into doing.

“Years ago I just started making little things, like frames, for my son,” Frazier said. “And I’d just start looking at Pinterest, things like that and I was like, ‘You know, I could do that.'”

Frazier has been doing his woodwork for a couple of years, but it used to be just a part time hobby. Then Frazier said he needed to find work and he decided to try doing it full-time.

“I worked for the Department of Labor for 12 years and then they moved my job to Boise, so I had to try to find means of full-time employment so I just thought I would try this,” Frazier said.

He said he thought Pocatello could use something like “Ideas on Wood” because there isn’t another shop like it.

He said the wood designs make great gifts because they’re unique and personal. He said they’re also great keepsakes, especially for photos, because they don’t fade.

Frazier said he really enjoys what he does and he’s happy about having the chance to open the store.

“I’m excited,” he said. “It’s kind of challenging because I’m the only one but I’m glad that I can finally do it. It’ll be a challenge for awhile but you just get to meet a bunch of different people and do a bunch of different things and it’s just something that you like to do.”

Frazier said the prices vary depending on what people get, the size, and how much detail they want added in. But he said the price range is between $15 to $100. He said nothing really is more than that. He wants to keep things as affordable as possible so that people have a local place to shop at, rather than having to go online.

Frazier said he takes custom orders, of course and he’s always willing to try out any new requests. He said one man even brought in some antlers to try and print on. Frazier said that was a first, but he tried it and it worked.

“Ideas on Wood” is located at 501 E. Halliday in Pocatello. Frazier said as of right now, the store’s hours will be Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
