Custer County Commissioner injured in accident

Custer County Commission Chairman Wayne Butts was transported to St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise Sunday after he was injured in an ATV-hunting accident.

Wayne Butts, 60, of Challis was hunting elk in the Willow Creek area, about 20 miles south of Challis. According to Custer County Search and Rescue, Butts was attempting to unload his 4-wheeler from the back of his pickup, when it fell and landed on him.

Rescue teams reached Butts in a very steep and heavily forested area at around 5:30 p.m. Sunday. A Life Flight helicopter flew him to St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise for treatment.

Butts, who is himself an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, was listed in fair condition at the Boise hospital Monday morning.
