Boise police dog dies from shooting injuries

Authorities say a Boise police dog that was shot last week during a search for a fugitive has died.

Boise Police Chief Bill Bones said Thursday that Jardo, a 6-year-old Belgian Malinois, died Wednesday evening after his handler noticed Jardo was acting unusual.

Jardo was shot in the chest on Friday and lost one of his lungs, but was expected to fully recover. His death comes as a shock to the Boise Police Department and to many others in the community.

Two Boise police officers were also shot. Corporal Chris Davis has been released from the hospital and Corporal Kevin Holtry, a 17-year veteran of the department, has remained hospitalized since the shootout.

A memorial for Jardo is expected to be scheduled next week.
