Open season for shoplifters
The holiday season is open season for criminals. Just this week Action Motor Sports, located on 1355 E. Lincoln Rd. in Idaho Falls, was targeted by shoplifters who stole products right off the shelves while the store was still open.
These sorts of crimes happen every day but they become more and more common during the holiday season.
According to Action Motor Sports Manager Steve Dutcher the incident happened at 5:40 p.m., two people where captured on surveillance video stealing snow goggles.
The video captured a Caucasian man wearing a gray hoodie and black beanie and his female accomplice who was wearing a yellow shirt and black jacket.
Dutcher said the two thieves made off with $60 worth of merchandise.
“The goggles had a detector on it and one of our employees heard it but by then the thieves had already made their way out of the store,” Dutcher said.
He reported it to Idaho Falls Police this Thursday morning.
Dutcher took to the stores Facebook page Wednesday night and posted the surveillance footage of the thieves stealing.
“I put together a short video of the two thieves and something awesome happened. Within not even a 24 hour period we have had 500 shares of that video and 2,500 views of that video.
He credits social media,”Theft has happened in our store before we’ve turned to social media and we caught the bad guy. And the merchandise was returned.”
Dutcher addes, “I couldn’t imagine why someone would want to risk their reputation and possibly end up behind bars over stealing $60, it’s just not worth it.”
