Idaho Falls Fire Department warns people of “burnout” scam

The Idaho Falls Fire Department is warning people about a telephone scam that has contacted several people, including firefighters, since Sunday.

According to city spokesperson Kerry Hammon, people are being contacted by a phone caller who claims to be a member of the fire department. The caller claims to be collecting money for a “burnout” program.

Hammon says the fire department does not have a “burnout” program and never solicits money from people over the phone.

Anyone who is contacted should simply hang up.
