Blackfoot family moves into new home after Nov. house fire

A Blackfoot family who lost their home in a November house fire finally have a new place to call home.

The Gifford family lost their home on Nov. 7. The family was away watching their middle son play in a state football playoff game in Boise when the fire broke out. For the last month, Shane, his wife, and two boys spent their life cramped in a hotel.

After 34 days, the family moved into a new home Saturday.

“It has been different,” said Shane. “It has been a lot tighter space. My bed is my dining room table, it’s our sofa, it’s our entertainment room. You have nowhere to sit.”

The family dog, George, was killed in the fire.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical problem. The Gifford’s insurance paid for their hotel stay.

The family had received several household item donations but much more is needed. If you’d like to help, you can donate to the family’s GoFundMe by clicking here.
