Crews dealing with melting snow, water on roadways

(KIFI/KIDK) Crews are dealing with flooding across Interstate 86 at Raft River. With all the melting snow and water on the roadway, there is some concern over how crews will be able to deal with it all.

The Idaho Transportation Department, along with the American Falls Highway District said they had crews out on the roads all day on Tuesday.

One of the big things crews have been working on, is making sure the culverts are not blocked so the rain has someplace to go.

The American Falls Highway District said they have already seen some gravel roads damaged on the outskirts of town.

Water on the roadways is never a good thing, according to the ITD. Standing water could saturate the roadway material and running water could erode the roadway material.

The ITD said as of Tuesday, they cannot asses the possible road damages until after the water on the roads have dissipated. Until then, they are just playing the waiting game.
