Locals rally for Standing Rock and Muslim immigrants
A rally happened on the Broadway Bridge in Idaho Falls where people stood in solidarity with Standing Rock protestors and Muslim immigrants on Saturday.
Standing Rock and Muslim immigration are both very controversial political topics. A large crowd of people gathered downtown Idaho Falls to show their support for protestors of the Dakota Access Pipeline, and for refugees and Muslim immigrants facing backlash from President Donald Trump’s ban.
We spoke to one of the ralliers who went to Standing Rock to show support. Crete Brown said she participated in action-training at the campsite, and that the protestors were peaceful.
“The people there are in prayer. They’re not violent in anyway. They have ceremony daily. It’s very uplifting, very joyful — and yet they are essentially being crushed and it’s heartbreaking. And so I stand on this bridge because I have to do something,” said Brown.
This rally was put on by the grass-roots civic activist group called Eastern-Idaho Water Protectors.
