Skiers head to Pebble Creek for annual Telemark Festival

You have probably heard of Alpine skiing, or Cross Country skiing, but how about Telemark skiing?

On Sunday, avid Telemark skiers headed to Pebble Creek for the annual Telemark Ski Festival. Skiers from Utah to Wyoming made their way to the event. And skiers of all ages participated in the races.

Telemark skiing is unique because the heel is not bound in the bindings, ultimately creating a “free heel”.

Afterwards, event goers tie-dyed their race shirts. During the award ceremony, instead of winners getting gold, silver or bronze medals, they got spray painted rocks instead. However, they were not any old rocks, the rocks came off of the Pebble Creek Mountain. The first place winner received a “gold” rock, along with the “silver” and “bronze” rocks for the second and third place winners.

A sponsor at the event said the festival is a great opportunity for the community to come to together. And of course, for Telemark enthusiasts to have some fun!
