Bingham County man sentenced on lewd conduct charges

Oscar Ramirez Acevedo of Bingham County was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to one count of lewd conduct with a child under the age of 16. As part of a plea agreement, an additional 20 felony counts were dismissed. Acevedo was arrested last October after the allegations were reported by a family member of the victim. Acevedo faced a lifetime prison term. Bingham County Prosecutor Paul Rogers said he argued for a 36-year sentence. But 7th District Judge Darren B. Simpson sentenced Acevedo to a mandatory 8 years in prison and another 16 years indeterminate. He could be eligible for parole in 8 years. Acevedo was also ordered to pay a $2,000 fine and an additional $5,000 civil penalty per statute.
