Karole Honas honored for achievements and service
Our very own news anchor Karole Honas will be honored by the University of Idaho Alumni Association for her achievements and service to the university at the Idaho Falls Silver and Gold Brunch on Saturday, June 17 at 10 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Idaho Falls.
Honas from the class of ’77 has worked in television for nearly 39 years, serving as an anchor at KIFI Local News 8 for the last 26 years. She was recently inducted into the Silver Circle of the National Academy of Television, Arts, and Sciences, an award honoring dedicated broadcasters who have made significant contributions to the industry and communities in their region.
As a University of Idaho alumna, she has served as a member of the advisory board for the School of Journalism and Mass Media in the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences. She continues to reach out to UI students interested in television news, informing UI of internship opportunities and job openings at her station and elsewhere.
“Honas is a role model for young reporters and anchors, helping them prepare for jobs in larger media markets,” said Patricia Hart, interim director of the School of Journalism and Mass Media.
Along with her service to UI, Honas has been an active member of her community.
“I have served with Karole on a number of community boards and committees,” said Park Price, chairman of the Bank of Idaho, “She cares deeply about eastern Idaho and is a willing volunteer in a number of causes.”
